Zombieland was not only a breakout comedy for Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Woody Harrelson but also writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The writing duo originally planned for Zombieland as a television series, pitched at one time to CBS. Prior to the movie the team had written 12 episodes, the movie being a combination of a few of them. From a 2009 interview with io9, Reese explains:
It underwent multiple devolopment experiences. We wrote it as a TV pilot and sold it to CBS, and they had a lot of notes, which we addressed. And then when they decided to not make the pilot we unaddressed a lot of them. We went back to what we had, because we liked it more. In most cases. In a few cases we kept what they added because they did have some good notes.
Now comes news that Amazon Studios is gearing up to bring that idea to fruition. According to the report, the show will focus around the original group as portrayed in the movie although it doesn’t look like Eisenberg, Stone, Breslin and Harrelson are returning. The show is setup as 30-minute episodes. No word yet on how many will debut or when.
