What if… Te’o did in fact make up the entire thing, put on the whole show on Twitter and telling stories of the love of his life? Ronaiah was involved too but the entire purpose was just to gain attention. Just an odd football player from Hawaii creating a ruse to gain attention. Don’t forget, Te’o is only 21 (going on 22 — Happy Birthday!) — it’s quite possible he’s just an awkward young guy himself and this was all just a game that got out of hand.

As a rabid ND fan and someone who really felt for Manti and his loss of his grandmother and the person he thought was his girlfriend in such quick succession, I’m going to withhold any judgement until all available facts are out there. As far as speculation goes I think that it’s conceivable that this kid was a victim and when his “loss” became national phenomenon he made up a story about how they met in person to spare himself the embarrassment of announcing to the world he had an online relationship with a woman he had never actually met and I don’t want to believe that he played any part in this hoax beyond that. As a ND fan who doesn’t miss a game and prays to “our lady” on game day for victory all I can say is this sucks..
